Common Questions...

How can I make my flowers last longer?
Certain varieties of cut flowers last longer than others.  Carnations, for example, can remain vibrant for long periods.  Roses have a shorter vase life, but are prized for their special and delicate beauty.  When buying flowers, be sure to ask your florist how long you should expect your arrangement to last.  Whatever variety you choose, a little TLC will go a long way to keep your blooms looking fresh longer.  Here are few handy tips that can help add days to their beauty!

What is floral food and why use it?
Floral food is a combination of additives that help to nourish the flowers and discourage bacteria from growing in the water.  It is one of the best - and easiest - ways to extend the life of your flowers.  It is very important to follow the directions on the package correctly.  Improperly mixed floral food can do more harm than good.

Our Substitution Policy...

Occasionally, substitutions may be necessary to create your bouquet due to the availability of certain flowers in various parts of the country.  Care is taken to maintain the style, theme and colour scheme of the arrangement, using flowers of equal value and attractiveness.  Additionally, the substitution of certain keepsake items may be necessary due to increased demand, especially during major holidays.  In single-flower arrangements, such as an all rose bouquet, we will make every attempt to match the flower type, but may substitute with another colour.

Rose colour symbolisim - in depth...

Red - There’s nothing secret about the red rose’s symbolism of love. Valentine’s Day would hardly exist without this bold and dramatic bloom. The ultimate symbol of romantic love and enduring passion, the red rose also conveys respect and the creative spirit of love. Representing true love stronger than thorns, the red rose is known universally as the lover’s rose.

White - Representing, humility, purity and innocence, the white rose—often referred to as the bridal rose—is associated with young love. In Scotland, when the white rose bloomed in autumn, it was seen as a token of early marriage. Also symbolizing truth and reverence, it sends a message of loyalty and says "I am worthy of you."

Yellow - While in Victorian times, the yellow rose symbolized jealousy, today it represents friendship, joy and caring. A bouquet of these sun-filled blossoms conveys warmth, gladness and affection.

Pink - Symbolizing gentility, femininity, elegance and refinement, the pink rose also carries additional meanings depending on its hue. A deep pink conveys gratitude and appreciation, while pale shades connote grace and gentleness, admiration and happiness.

Orange - With their warm, vibrant tones, orange roses symbolize enthusiasm and desire. If you’re looking for a way to express admiration and attraction—with an underlying message of passion and excitement—then send a bouquet filled with these fiery blooms.

Lilac & Purple - Thought to be almost mystical in nature, with symbolism tied to enchantment, desire and even proceeding cautiously, it’s not surprising that lilac and purple roses send a message of love at first sight.  A great Valentine flower.

Colour Combination - In some instances—usually when mixing red with another color rose—you can send additional messages with your choice of bouquet. For example, a combination of red and yellow roses conveys gaiety and happiness, while a mix of red and white roses symbolizes unity.

More rose symbolisim - As if color weren’t enough to express your innermost thoughts, there are still more ways that roses can convey your message. For example, while fresh flowers in a bouquet—like roses in full bloom-express deep gratitude, a single rose says “I still love you.” A bouquet of rosebuds—representing innocent love—says “you are forever young and beautiful.” And a thornless rose says “love at first sight,” while the tea rose says “I’ll remember you always.”

Floral care tips...

Essentials for your flowers

Keep them in a cool spot (65 to 72 degrees Fahrenheit; 18 to 22 degrees Celsius), away from direct sunlight, heating or cooling vents, direct drafts from ceiling fans, and the tops of televisions or radiators.  (Appliances like televisions give off heat, causing flowers to dehydrate.)

When your flowers arrive in wet foam
Keep the floral foam soaked in water containing floral food provided by your florist.  Be sure to follow the directions on the package.

When your flowers are arranged in water

Keep the vase filled with water containing floral food provided by your florist.  Be sure to follow the directions on the package.

If the solution becomes cloudy, replace it entirely.  If possible, recut the stems by removing one to two inches with a sharp knife, under water.  Remove leaves that will be below the waterline.  Leaves in water will promote bacterial growth that can harm the flowers.

When your flowers have woody stems and branches (such as Quince, Forsythia, or Lilac)
Cut the stem with sharp by-pass pruning shears under water.  Place in warm water containing fresh floral food to promote flower opening.

Most of our products can be delivered the same day. To assure same-day delivery, orders must be received before 1:00 PM, Monday - Friday, or before 12:00 Noon on Saturdays in the recipient's time zone. Orders received after that time may be delivered the following day.

Regretfully, we are unable to guarantee time of delivery to rural route addresses, hotels, hospitals, military bases or cemeteries. To request a specific delivery time, please call and talk to one of our designers. We will do our best to accommodate your preferences.

Before major holidays, we recommend that you place your orders at least five days in advance.
The florists in our Teleflora network are experienced at making deliveries to hospitals. When placing your order, please be sure to include the hospital name and telephone number, the name of the recipient and room number or ward of the recipient.

The florist will send your gift bouquet in accordance with facility procedures, as most hospitals do not allow florists to personally deliver to individual rooms. Please note that many ICU patients are not permitted to receive flowers. Please check with the hospital before placing your order.

Recipient Not Home
If you have specific instructions for the delivery of your gift bouquet, please contact our shop. In all other cases, if the recipient is not at home when the neighborhood florist attempts a delivery, they will either:
o Call the recipient to schedule an appropriate delivery time
o Leave a note on the recipient's door asking them to contact the florist to schedule a delivery time
o Leave the arrangement in a covered, secure area of the home (porch, garage, or other entrance) if weather permits.
o Leave the gift bouquet with a neighbor and place a message on the recipient's door with this information

Substitution Policy
Occasionally, floral substitutions are necessary due to temporary, regional availability issues. If this is the case with the gift you've selected, our experienced florists will ensure that the style, theme and color scheme of your arrangement is preserved and will substitute only fresh flowers of equal or higher value.

Flower colour significance...

The pale blue hues of a hydrangea or the deep blues of an iris can calm worries and preoccupation representing peace, openness, and serenity, fresh floral arrangements filled with blue flowers offers a cooling antidote to anxiousness..

Think pink and you think of grace, gentility, and happiness. Regardless of the shape of the flower – from the tight, small buds of a pink garden rose to the delicate, open petals of a pink caellia in full bloom – pink blossoms convey youth, innocence, and joy.

With its origins tied to royalty and ceremony, purple flowers represent dignity, pride and success. Whether grouped alone in a bold range of rich hues or mixed in with other colors to provide depth and contrast, an arrangement filled with purple blooms represents accomplishment and admiration.

There’s an indisputable energy to the color red – an energy that has the power to transform an otherwise unassuming flower into the essence of desire, strength, and passionate love. With beauty, courage and heat as its symbolism, it’s no surprise that a bouquet filled with rich, red blooms knows no restraint.

Often associated with innocence, humility, and reverence, white flowers evoke simple beauty. Whether they take their shape as the luxurious, silk petals of fragrant gardenias, the small, white bells of a lily of the valley, or the quiet drama of a dozen white roses, fresh floral arrangement dominated by white blossoms conveys modesty and elegance.

There’s a good reason why it can feel all but impossible to refrain from smiling when you spot a bouquet of bright daffodils or a pot filled with sun-drenched chrysanthemums–the color yellow evokes feelings of joy and lightheartedness. Also a symbol of friendship, a bouquet bursting with yellow blooms sends a message of new beginnings and happiness.

There’s nothing bashful about the color orange–its message is clear and blatantly proud. Symbolizing energy, enthusiasm, and warmth, an arrangement of blooms in this vibrant color conveys confidence, satisfaction and a passion for life.

Synonymous with nature–and the perfect complement to any other bloom–the color green represents health, resilience, good fortune and youth. Whether used to throw together a diverse mixture of shapes and hues or as a restful tone-on-tone bouquet, green flowers send a message of optimism and renewal.

While purple is the color of royalty, and pink the color of youth, lavender is femininity all grown up. Representing refinement, grace, and elegance, lavender holds an almost sacred place in nature—with violet flowers often considered the most delicate and precious. An arrangement filled with these genteel blossoms send a message of feminine beauty.
